C-K Girls Basketball Has Mixed Results

The Claysburg-Kimmel girls basketball team played three games last week and all three were different in their own right.

The Lady Bulldogs suffered a 77-25 blowout loss at Southern Huntingdon on Monday, Jan. 20, handed out a one-sided game in their favor in a 54-26 victory over North Star on Tuesday, Jan. 21 and then suffered a heartbreaking setback, 36-34, at home against Tussey Mountain on Thursday, Jan. 23.

In the lopsided defeat to the Lady Rockets, C-K found itself down 48-22 at the break, then was held to just three points in the second half while Southern tacked on 29 more.

Bailey Tipton led the way for Claysburg with nine points.

In the easy win over the Lady Cougars, Zailee Bush put together a career game as she torched the nets for 32 points on 11 field goals and a 10-for-13 showing from the foul line.

Claysburg-Kimmel only led by five (19-14) after the half but a 13-point edge in the third frame (15-2) allowed the home squad to grab a 34-16 advantage before closing things out in the final quarter.

Bella Francona also reached double figures for the Lady Bulldogs with 13 points.

In the close loss to the Lady Titans, C-K had the ball in the closing seconds with a chance to tie or take the lead, but the Lady Bulldogs were unable to get a shot off to drop their record to 6-11.

Tipton’s game-high 19 points weren’t enough as Claysburg-Kimmel held a 29-24 lead heading into the final quarter before being outscored 12-5.

Bush finished the night with 13 points for the Bulldogs as Francona had the only other two points.
