1,000 Career Points for HS Junior LeeAnna Royer

Needing just twelve points to hit 1,000 points for the season, LeeAnna Royer headed into the game with Moshannon Valley on Thursday night.

She hit the milestone on a three-point shot with a gym that felt "just like home" with a lot of Williamsburg fans making the trek to Mo Valley to see Royer hit 1,000.

The Lady Pirates went on to victory over Mo Valley, with Royer scoring 17 points, leading all scorers.

Royer said her coaches are her biggest mentors on the basketball court, and some of her all-time favorite teammates she said are Ayla Hileman and LeVada Gorsuch.

She grew up in a Williamsburg family with her parents Roger and Carrie Royer, grandparents, and great-grandparents all being born and raised here.

Royer also has an older brother, RJ and a younger sister, Bella.

"Our family has a lot of history in Williamsburg and I am very proud to be the latest generation to grow up here," she said. "The small town of Williamsburg is a great environment to grow up in. It is amazing how the entire community is supportive of our team and it is a great feeling to represent our school and community."

Royer said her favorite shot has been her 1,000th point shot.

A lot of young fans were in attendance to cheer her on.

"Start as young as possible and practice," Royer said was her advice for the younger generation. "Basketball is a hard sport to play and learn, and it requires a lot of practice."

Head coach Angela Detwiler couldn't be prouder.

"Normally if you have a player scoring 1,000 points in their junior year, their role on your team is to score points," she said. "LeeAnna is doing a lot more than scoring points. She is currently averaging 19 points a game, five rebounds, five assists, and four steals. I've said this before, but she is a true point guard. When she steps onto the floor, she elevates our entire team's play on both ends of the floor. I am very proud of her for scoring her 1,000th point, but I'm even more proud of how unselfish she is on the floor, how she sets her teammates up and how relentless her defense is."

Royer's mother Carrie agreed with Detwiler.

"If anyone deserves this it's LeeAnna," she said. "Meeting this milestone as a junior is a great accomplishment. I've coached her since she was a little girl and to reach this as a junior is unheard of because she is a humbled, unselfish team player. She has always been such a fun player to coach and watch. Her entire family and many friends and community members here and far are very proud of her."
