Canoe Creek
Helen M. Despot, 95, a resident of Hollidaysburg Lutheran Home, formerly of Canoe Creek, passed away Thursday morning, Jan. 16, 2025, at the Lutheran Home.
She was born Nov. 8, 1929, in Clappertown, rural Williamsburg, daughter of the late, Roy Herbert and Marcella A. (Tate) Umbower. On June 23, 1948, she married John Despot in Cumberland, Md. He preceded her in death Jan. 27, 1993, following 44 years of marriage.
She is survived by three daughters: Helen M. Hein (Gordon), Linda K. Despot and Bonnie J. Middleton (Dennis) all of Hollidaysburg; three grandchildren: Jason D. Bottenfield (Gracie), Heather K. Moyer and Robert T. Hein; two great-grandchildren: Maxwell Bottenfield and Collin Spotts; a sister, Cheryl Lee Umbower; and a brother-in-law, Tom Nicodemus.
She was preceded in death by four sisters: Mildred M. "Sis" Price, Louise Mae Creamer, Emma Jean Thomas and F. Pauline Nicodemus; and two brothers-in-law, Donald Thomas and John Price.
Helen was a longtime, active member of the Williamsburg Church of God, where she helped make the chocolate Easter eggs each year. She loved her Lord, reading her bible and traveling with her Canoe Creek neighbors.
Helen also enjoyed embroidery, her pet Schnauzer dogs, bird watching, and reminiscing about the good old days in Canoe Creek.
All services will be private and interment will be held at New Canoe Creek Cemetery, rural Hollidaysburg.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Helen may be given to Grace Pointe Community Church (the former, Williamsburg Church of God), 815 Yellow Springs Drive, Williamsburg, PA 16693.
