Borough Still Looking to Fill Vacancy

During their meeting last Monday evening, January 6, Williamsburg Borough Council announced that no letters of interest were received to fill the vacant council seat left by the resignation of Mike Biddle. Interested residents are encouraged to contact the borough for more information.

Mayor Ted Hyle, during his report, praised borough employees for snow removal. Hyle also said the fire company will be getting two new trucks; a new tanker and a used truck from Saxton. 

Following a meeting with PennDOT last month, it was announced that the widening project was “just a suggestion,” and the borough does not have to widen First and Second Streets to help aid in flooding issues along 866. No further discussion was held on the topic.

Borough Manager Joe Lansberry said that Scott Grannas was looking into some of the Penelec property located in Catharine Township. Lansberry said that the borough was looking into an appraisal, but is in “no hurry.”

Council approved the renewal of contracts – one with Stiffler McGraw as the engineering firm, and one with Evey Black Law for borough’s solicitor. Lansberry said the contract with Evey Black showed an increase of $5 for some services. Paula Hamilton made a motion to approve both contracts with Dakota Biddle seconding, motion passed.

Hamilton also made a motion to approve an advertisement for a public meeting regarding BluAcres and the Penelec property. There is no set date for the public meeting yet. Dakota Biddle seconded the motion, motion passed. 

Karyn Shaw and Matthew Webb were both absent from the meeting.
