A Herald feature story reported that stores in Martinsburg and Roaring Spring were having trouble keeping up with the demand for yo-yos by youths of the community. The popularity lead to them being banned at the Spring Cove Junior High School.

Contributions by community residents pushed the Martinsburg Community Fund over its goal of $12,775, the highest one ever reached by the fund.

A feature story debated the issue of whether the Spring Cove School Board should sink money into the district’s school buildings that are 40 and 50 years old.
