Jasper, the Roaring Spring correspondent, pointed out in his column that the 19th Century did not end on Dec. 31 as many assumed. “We’ve still got 12 long months this year,” he said. “You know it’s not through until Jan. 1, 1901.
The mayors were finding it difficult to enforce the ordinance requiring sidewalks to be cleared of snow. A slushy snow froze solid before most folks had a chance to shovel it.
Skating at Lake Hagey in Henrietta was reported as excellent.
