“What is the best Christmas present you ever received?” people often ask.
I have one of the more sentimental answers to this question. This story I love telling and truly shows how blessed I am to have a mother like I do.
Back around 1998-1999, my Mom, Suzanne, who was a fan of Avon makeup and jewelry at the time, gave me a catalog from her workplace and asked if there was anything in there I would like to get.
I looked through the book anxiously wanting to find something I would like, and this was around the time of the popularity of the film, Titanic. Lo and behold in the catalog was the “dupe” Titanic necklace from the movie, and that was at the top of my list.
I told her what I wanted and was disappointed when a few weeks later, she told me that the necklace was so popular that it sold out. Needless to say, I was heartbroken.
That year on Christmas Eve, my mom was acting kind of suspicious and asked me if I wanted to go for a ride with her.
We pulled off at the Woodbury Township building, and she said she thought she had forgotten something in her purse and asked me to look for it. When I went to open the purse, there was an Avon box, and inside was that special Titanic necklace – the best $14.99 gift I ever received.
Now, I know that it’s not the best gift one could receive, but it’s one of the best moments I had growing up and it’s a Christmas gift I’ll always remember.
That Titanic necklace is now long gone, but it’s having a Mom that makes one special Christmas gift turn into one of your most cherished Christmas memories. So, on behalf of my family to yours – Merry Christmas!
