Haul out the dictionaries and sharpen the pencils! The Herald’s crossword puzzle made its first appearance in a series of the popular brain testers. Some would be easy, others might stumble over the simplest words. One was likely to trip-up if ascending or descending too rapidly the first puzzle titled “Heavenly Stairway.”
