Central's hopes of reaching the District 6 Class 3A championship were dashed Friday night as they were shut out by Penn Cambria, 33-0, in the semifinal game held at Penn Cambria High School Athletic Field. This defeat marks Central's third consecutive loss in the district title game, where they have faced the Panthers each year for the last four seasons.
Despite the outcome, Central started the game with a promising drive, threatening to score in the second quarter before being halted by a strong Penn Cambria defense. The Scarlet Dragons struggled to find their rhythm against the undefeated Panthers, who turned the tide after a scoreless first quarter.
Central, now 8-3, was unable to capitalize on their initial momentum, and their offense faltered after the first quarter. With a halftime deficit of 12-0, the Scarlet Dragons couldn't regain their footing in the second half as Penn Cambria continued to extend its lead.
As the Panthers advance to face Tyrone in the championship game, Central must regroup for the future.
