Martinsburg
Harold W. Hoover, 95, of Martinsburg, went home to be with the Lord early Monday morning, Oct. 28, 2024, at his residence.
He was born April 20, 1929, in Martinsburg, son of the late Charles E. and Roxie (Fluke) Hoover. On Sept. 29, 1956, he married Mary Jane Heltzel. She preceded him in death July 13, 2000, following 44 years of marriage.
He is survived by two sons, Duane Hoover (MaryBeth) of Martinsburg and Timothy Hoover (LuVerne) of Watkinsville, Ga .; three granddaughters: Tegan Ketchie (Josh) of Marietta, Ga., Chelsea Hoover of Syracuse, N.Y., and Johanna Fischer (Monte) of Palo Alto, Calif .; and three great-granddaughters: Olivia, Fiona and Josie.
He was preceded in death by five siblings: Gladys J. Albright, Cletus E. Hoover, Richard S. Hoover, James I. Hoover, and infant Clifford Hoover.
Harold was a faithful member of Martinsburg Grace Brethren Church.
He was a graduate of Martinsburg High School. Harold was a United States Army veteran serving from 1951 until 1953, attaining the rank of corporal.
He worked at Modern Cabinet and Construction in Altoona until his retirement at age 86 due to health reasons. He was a very gifted wood craftsman.
Harold loved seeing pictures of his granddaughters and great-granddaughters and also enjoyed reading, mowing the lawn, and gardening. He was happiest when working outside.
A graveside service with military honors was held Friday, Nov. 1, 2024, at Fairview Cemetery, Martinsburg. Mr. Daniel Horton officiated.
