Martinsburg Picks Burgess
Herald of Nov. 10, 1949
In Martinsburg, voters upset tradition by electing the first Democratic burgess in memory and the first woman school director in the history of the borough.
The most serious hunting accident reported in Morrisons Cove this season resulted in the injury of Landis (Pete) Dell of Henrietta, Saturday. He suffered a gunshot injury when a charge hit Dell in the left arm and some of the pellets struck his face, one near the nose. Some of the shots were too deep in the arm to remove, it was reported.
A detour was established between Martinsburg and Williamsburg this week as the state highway department began construction of a small bridge and the elimination of a curve in the Piney Creek highway at Clappertown.
Eugene Detwiler, son of Mr. and Mrs. Emery Detwiler of Martinsburg, R.D. 1, and a member of Morrison Cove FFA was given a trip to Purina Convention held at St. Louis Oct. 24-25, through the courtesy of W.M. Burchfield, local Purina dealer.
