Two Fingers Blown off Hand
Herald of Nov. 10, 1899
From Nov. 7, 1974 and Nov. 10, 1999 Editions
A young son of John Lingenfelter of Freedom Township had two fingers blown off his left hand by the accidental discharge of a rifle. He was about to climb over a fence and pushed the gun between the rails, butt end foremost, when the hammer struck a stone, discharging the load. The bullet severed two fingers. Dr. C.W. Fox of Roaring Spring dressed the wound.
Burglars broke into the clothing store of John R. Law of Martinsburg and obtained a wagonload of merchandise valued at $1,500.
George Irvin, a fireman on the Williamsburg Branch of the P.R.R., fell from the engine and suffered a lacerated left foot, an injury that required amputation of several toes.
The “Mountain Echo,” a newspaper once published at Osterburg and later at Bedford, came out under a new title as a semi-weekly: “The Pennsylvania Hawkeye.”
