Cove Telephone Co. Buys Bell

Herald of Oct. 31, 1924

From Oct. 31, 1974 and Nov. 4, 1999 Editions

After more than a year’s negotiations and investigations, the Morrisons Cove Telephone Co. purchased all rights, property and franchises of Bell Telephone of Pennsylvania in Williamsburg, Roaring Spring and adjacent rural lines, assuming exclusive control of the entire Cove territory and Catharine Township. Some new poles, lines and about 75 miles of copper wire were being replaced from Martinsburg to Williamsburg. The effective purchase date was Dec. 1.

The ill health of D.M. Bare was responsible for his 90th birthday being quietly spent at his Roaring Spring home with his visiting daughter, Mrs. Annie Eldon of Connecticut. His large Sunday School class sent him a bouquet of 90 roses.

Mrs. Francis Grimes and two children of Starkweather N.D., arrived in Snake Spring Valley on Sunday, Oct. 19. Mr. Grimes and one child were to follow later as the family was to make its home in the valley.
