Central Falls to Undefeated Clearfield

Despite a strong defensive showing in the first half, Central fell to the undefeated Clearfield Bison, 35-14, on the Bison’s senior night Friday. The Scarlet Dragons held Clearfield to 14 points through two quarters but struggled offensively, managing only 1 yard of total offense in the first half and trailing 14-0 at halftime.

Central’s offense came to life in the third quarter, with quarterback Eli Muthler leading two touchdown drives. However, each time the Dragons scored, Clearfield responded with touchdown runs by Brady Collins, keeping Central at bay. The Dragons never closed the gap to fewer than seven points before Clearfield pulled away late in the game.

A highlight for Central came on a trick play during its second touchdown drive in the third quarter. On fourth-and-goal from the 5-yard line, the Dragons executed a double reverse, eventually flipping the ball back to Muthler, who connected with Jay Hoenstine in the far corner of the end zone.

One crucial statistic was Central’s sluggish start, gaining just 1 yard on 19 first-half plays. This slow offensive performance hurt the Dragons on a night when Clearfield also started slow but still managed to control the game.

Central will look to bounce back next Friday when they travel to Forest Hills.

Records: Central 5-4, Clearfield 9-0
