Business as Usual for Local Store After Changes

By Doug Mingle and Jo Ellen Mingle

from Roaring Spring True Value Hardware

On October 14, Illinois-based True Value Company announced that it was filing Chapter 11 bankruptcy and had entered into an agreement to sell substantially all of the company's business operations to Do it Best, another distribution company serving independent retailers in the home improvement industry.

While the True Value brand is well known by do-it-yourselfers, contractors and tradespeople around the country, what might be less known is that every local True Value store is independently owned and operated. This is an important distinction, because while the True Value Company itself has filed for bankruptcy and is being sold, Roaring Spring True Value Hardware is not part of this bankruptcy or sale.

The 4,500+ stores served by the corporate entity that is True Value are actually owned by husbands, wives, moms, dads, daughters and sons. Each store operates to meet the needs of the local community and makes independent decisions about how to best do that. Even though this store uses the True Value brand, these changes will not impact our ability to serve the community or remain a valuable resource in helping the area's residents meet their home improvement needs.

While the bankruptcy and subsequent sale of True Value Company may change a few things, the local community served by Roaring Spring True Value Hardware can rest assured that this store and its team will adapt to this evolution, and customers are unlikely to see any change in the products they have access to, the services provided by the store, or the friendly hometown service they expect to receive while visiting,

As an independently owned business carrying the True Value brand, Roaring Spring True Value Hardware wants to assure customers that it is not going out of business or filing for bankruptcy. The store's owners, Doug and Jo Ellen Mingle, will be closely tracking the bankruptcy and sale process of our supplier, True Value Company, while maintaining the same high level of customer service, product selection and knowledge you have come to expect from your local True Value store. "We are privileged to continue the tradition of 'The Company Store' that was first opened in Roaring Spring in 1863. We remain committed to providing the products our community needs, despite the additional challenges the True Value corporate sale might bring."

We will continue to share additional information as it is available. In the meantime, we are thankful for the people who continue to support Roaring Spring True Value and the independent home improvement channel.
