James R. "Jim" Negley

Clappertown

James R. "Jim" Negley, 81, of Clappertown, passed away early Saturday morning, Oct. 12, 2024, at UPMC Altoona.

He was born Sept. 2, 1943, in Bedford County, son of the late C.W. and Theda Osborne (Gates) Negley. On Oct. 15, 1966, he married Linda J. Bristow at the St. Matthew Evangelical Lutheran Church, Martinsburg.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Linda, of almost 58 years, their anniversary would have been on Tuesday; three children: J. Todd Negley of Altoona, Mark A. Negley (Chris) of Clappertown and Renee L. Bumberger (John) of rural Hollidaysburg; eight grandchildren: Richard Negley (Tessa Cadle), Brittany Bauman (Tony), Brandon Negley (Alexis), Ashley Negley, Derek Negley (Hannah), Sarah Isenberg, Emily Bumberger and Jonathan Bumberger; six great-grandchildren; a sister, Ruth Snelbaker of Manchester; and a sister-in-law, Lillie Negley of Clappertown.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Fred A. Negley.

Jim was a 1962 graduate of Central High School, where he was a member of the FFA. He was a proud, lifelong dairy farmer in Clappertown and longtime member of the Pennsylvania Farm Bureau. Jim was also a member of the Shady Trail Riding Club in Woodbury.

He loved spending time with his family and over the years attending events for his children and grandchildren. Jim also enjoyed horseback riding and more recently, riding his side by side.

Friends will be received from 4 until 8 p.m., Friday, October 18, 2024, at St. Matthew Evangelical Lutheran Church, Martinsburg, and from 10 until 11 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 19, 2024, at the church, where a funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. Rev. Traci Marriott will be officiating. Interment will be held at Royer Cemetery, rural Williamsburg.
