No Money Coming Back to C-K District

It was announced at the Claysburg-Kimmel School District Board of Directors October meeting that the district would have no money coming back to the district for overpayment from the Altoona Career and Technology Center.

Current numbers in the CTC have put the facility over capacity.

There was only a 65% acceptance rate for students in programs this year. The CTC is in urgent need of more space but the building is currently landlocked. 

The Claysburg-Kimmel Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) is holding a large Basket Bingo fundraiser for program support at the Claysburg-Kimmel Elementary School on Saturday, October 26 sponsored by the FBLA Community Service Project and Community Connections.

Doors open at noon for the event and games begin at 1 p.m. All tickets can be purchased from FBLA members or the Flower Connection.

The elementary and secondary teacher handbooks for the 2024-25 school year were unanimously approved by the board. The teacher’s union leaders reviewed the handbooks and found no problems or issues with them.

The motion to approve the agreement with Simply Speech Therapy, LLC for speech-language support services for the 2024 -25 school year was also approved.

The motion to approve the Act 93 agreement for Jaime Irvin, school psychologist/special education supervisor was approved as was the agreement with Caroline Wolf of Boundless Federal Programming, for E-rate services for the 2024-25 school year. 

The motion to approve numerous school policies in the first reading was all approved including discipline of students with disabilities, behavior support, threat assessment, educational opportunities for military children, and school security personnel.

The motion to approve the second reading of Policy 805.1 Relations with Law Enforcement agencies which includes the Pa. State Police and Greenfield Township police for the district was approved. An agreement must be in place each year with both of them.

Several school district policies were retired including those on head lice, school wellness, and dating violence. 

In personnel issues: the resignation of Emma Gill as junior high assistant girls basketball coach effective immediately was accepted.

The following winter coaches for the 2024/25 season include: Abby Claar, assistant coach junior high girls basketball; Russ Knisely, assistant coach varsity wrestling; Barry Weyandt, head coach junior high wrestling; and Chris Burket, assistant coach junior high wrestling were all unanimously approved. Seven volunteer assistant wrestling coaches were approved as was Gill as a volunteer girls basketball coach. 

Steve Walter was approved as a fall/winter/spring game manager for 2024/25 and Allison McMullen as a winter game manager.
