Wild Game Dinner Held at Farm Show Building

Over 200 people enjoyed the Wild Game dinner put on by the Williamsburg First Methodist Church and the Williamsburg Community Farm Show on Saturday, September 14.

The dinner menu featured alligator, venison, crawfish, elk and other home-cooked sides made by volunteers.

The Wild Game Dinner was the brainchild of First Methodist Church Pastor Matt Roberts and parishioners.

"There hasn't been one of these locally for a while, and we just wanted to get the locals to come out and have something to do on a Saturday night while helping out a great cause," he said.

The fundraiser was held for Faith in Action, a group comprised of parishoners from the First Methodist Church and other churches.

"They are just people who want to help out the community," Roberts said.

The idea of the dinner Robert said was to raise money to provide goods and services to the people of Williamsburg and the surrounding communities.

So far, the Faith in Action group has helped build handicapped ramps, provided lawn care, installed dog doors, mended fences, and other handyman projects.

"We see someone with a need and we want to help them out any way that we can," Roberts said.

According to Roberts, Williamsburg resident Jack Frye donated items towards the silent auction.

"He's paying it forward, donating homemade leather goods and knives, and we just did something small, like making a ramp for him," Roberts said. "We just want to help others."

The main sponsors of the event were PennCrest Bank and Cathy Weidig – in memory of Mason Weidig. The event included dinner, a silent auction, door prizes, and several tables full of basket raffle items.

Attendee Jerry Michelone said he enjoyed the elk and attendee Rob Stultz enjoyed the venison chili.

"It's just nice to get out, enjoy a good meal, and help out a great cause," Mike Benfer, of Martinsburg said.

"We just want to do good. Provide the ability for those to continue the way they have been. We are just rough men and women of faith who are the sharing the word of God," Roberts said.
