VFW Donates Funds to Purchase New Helmets for Players

In a display of community support, Central High School athletes are now taking to the field with enhanced protection, thanks to a $2,500 donation from the local Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 7689.

The funds were used to purchase much-needed safety helmets, ensuring that the school's athletes are better protected during sports activities.

Spring Cove School District recognized the need for more proactive safety measures this year but found themselves without the budget to cover the unexpected costs of the new helmets.

In response, the community quickly rallied together.

Leading the effort was Kayla Myers, president of the QB Club, who worked tirelessly to help secure the necessary equipment for the athletes.

"The safety of our students is a top priority," she said. "We are incredibly grateful to the VFW and the broader community for coming together to ensure our athletes are well-equipped."

The helmets, designed to reduce the risk of injury, mark an important step forward in promoting safety in school sports. The VFW's contribution allowed the school to purchase enough helmets to meet these proactive safety measures, highlighting the organization's commitment to supporting local youth and community initiatives.

A special presentation was held during Central's second home game, led by Post Commander Doug Warmath of VFW Post 7689.

The event recognized the VFW's generous donation, with Myers and Warmath both expressing gratitude for the community's role in making student safety a priority.

"This is what community is all about," Myers said. "It's amazing to see everyone come together for the benefit of our students."

The Spring Cove School District administration, coaches, and parents have all expressed their appreciation for the support, emphasizing how critical it is to have the proper equipment to protect young athletes. The new helmets now serve as a symbol of both safety and the power of a united community. As the team continues its season, these helmets represent more than just safety gear-they reflect a town's dedication to its students and a shared commitment to their well-being.
