Alexys Tomlinson Will Swim for C-K at Hollidaysburg

Alexys Tomlinson, a freshman at Claysburg Kimmel, will become the first swimmer ever to represent the district in competitive meets.

The board of directors approved the decision at their September meeting.

Claysburg has never had a formal swim team. Tomlinson will swim for the district and wear the school swimsuit and cap.

Her mother, Tiffany Tomlinson, was approved by the board to serve as a volunteer swim coach for independent swimmers.

The suit should be in the $50-$80 range and cap $20.

Tomlinson’s current swim times would qualify her for district competition and the school would cover her fee associated with district competition. Alexys will be allowed to swim at Hollidaysburg High School home meets representing Claysburg-Kimmel.

The board announced that open teaching positions were filled at the Career & Technology Center, and over 1,200 students enrolled this year.

Many building changes have been made with 60 students waiting for admission to the technology center.

The $3,600, two-year Future Educators Grant will fund the start of the CK Peer Buddy Club for school years 2024/25 and 2025/26. There are 26 students currently enrolled in the program. An email has been sent to inform all teachers on this.

The motion to approve hiring an advisor for the CK Peer Buddy Club passed and will be paid by the Future Special Educators Grant.

The board approved the motion to approve 12 workers at the contracted hourly teacher rate for the 21st Century Program to be paid by the $76,000 21st Century Grant. The program will run four days a week for 30 weeks with a requirement for three staff present and a transportation option provided.

The district has a formal written agreement to work with the Greenfield Township and state police in place as part of the required relations with law enforcement agencies.

The motion was approved to pay half the cost of senior yearbooks for the 2024/25 school year.

There was some discussion on the co-teaching program for math with only 12 students enrolled in the program. Some scheduling issues were discussed and the fact that only some students had prep periods.

The second reading for 52 policies ranging from Dating Violence and Dress and Grooming to Random Drug Testing and Bullying/Cyber Bullying was unanimously approved by the board.
