Central Football Defeats Rivals Tyrone

Central High School's football team traveled to Tyrone's home field on Friday, September 6, and walked away with a hard-fought victory, showcasing a dominant defensive performance that secured the win with final score of 13-7.

Central Head Football Coach Jerry Albright said he thought going into the game on Friday, September 6, against Tyrone, their teams were evenly matched.

"Our defense was tremendous again this week," he said. "We tackled well, played very responsible football and got a lot of defenders to the football."

Tyrone's only score came on a breakdown in Central's secondary pass coverage.

One thing Albright thought the team could improve on was to be more consistent on offense.

"We make too many unforced mistakes. We have the potential to be very efficient, but our mistakes keep us from reaching that level," he said. "Even though our offense was inconsistent, they came up big in the second half when we really needed them too."

He said most recently, Tyrone is Central's biggest football rival, but they also have a football tradition similar to Central.

"They get a lot of community support. In the last several years, we have been fortunate to have the upper edge," Albright said.

Players who stood out on offense were Eli Muthler and Jay Hoenstine, he said.

"They were very in sync with each other, combining to produce several big plays to keep drives going," Albright said. "They paired together for eight receptions for 137 yards."

He said on defense, the linebacker trio of Lukas Black, Braydon Beach and Colton Harbaugh also stood out and made the majority of Central's defensive stops.

"They seem to be everywhere all over the field," Albright said.

This coming Friday, Central will host Bellwood-Antis at home.

"Bellwood is a solid, very fundamentally sound football team," he said. "They do all the little things like blocking and tackling so well. They don't have any big stars, but play as a team."

Bellwood joined the Laurel Highlands Athletic Conference last year.

"It took them a year to get adjusted, but they are undefeated again this year just like they used to do in the ICC," Albright said.
