Claysburg Farm Show Returned for 93rd Year

The 93rd Annual Claysburg Farm Show is a big event in the Claysburg area, according to Palmer Knisely, chairman of the Claysburg Farm Show Association.

"This is probably one of the biggest events here," Knisely said.

Since at least 1996, the Farm Show has taken place at the Queen Grade School Building, where each department has its own contest space.

Participants submit their entries to various departments, competing for first, second, and third place awards.

Categories include flowers, vegetables, needlework, antiques, canned goods, baked goods, and crafts.

However, this year's egg department, typically a feature of the show, was absent due to concerns over avian flu.

Knisely, who oversees the flower department, said the school building provides an ideal setup for the event.

"I'm proud of being in the Queen Grade School Building," he said. "The separate rooms allow us to keep everything in a designated place and not have to move it."

Knisely's involvement with the farm show began when he lived near the school and was encouraged to participate by submitting items he grew in his garden.

"I picked cherries and canned them," he said. "The ladies couldn't believe I did that all by myself."

That experience sparked a passion for the event, and Knisely has returned each year since. Now, as a key organizer, he enjoys watching others get involved.

"I love the flowers, and I love seeing people bring in their entries," he said. "I have a lot of good memories."
