Golden Rule Memorial Bridge Dedication

The New Enterprise Township Supervisors held a bridge dedication ceremony for the 2080 Golden Rule Road bridge in New Enterprise, at 10 a.m. on August 22.

John Hileman, the Chairperson for the Township Supervisors opened the ceremony.

He said the bridge started as a water management project last summer.

Keller Engineers designed and oversaw the permits and inspections.

Guyer Brothers was the successful bidder for the project and built the bridge. There was also a ditch line along the field leading to the bridge that needed to be fixed, and was completed under the direction of Keller.

Allen Detwiler was the landowner. Hileman thanked him for all the cooperation he gave to everyone in getting this bridge completed to help ensure the safety of all. He also thanked Keller Engineers and Guyer Brothers for their great work and cooperation.

The name of the bridge was a unanimous decision made by the supervisors to honor those who served in the military who followed the golden rule - to treat others as you would want to be treated. The supervisors named it the Golden Rule Memorial Bridge.

State Rep. Jesse Topper gave a special thank you and congratulated the supervisors on celebrating this great project.

"This is unique and special to all our veterans and families who sacrificed for our freedom," he said.

Topper said the best recruitment tool is to show how we honor and treat our veterans afterward.

J.R. Winck vice-chair of the Bedford County Commissioners also spoke.

"It is important we celebrate this moment and how God walks with us through these moments to keep people safe," he said.

Detwiler thanked everyone who came to celebrate this moment at his home.

He gave a prayer and thanked God for being a bridge builder through his son Jesus.

Jim Williams captain of the Fort Bedford Honor Guard led his group in a gun salute and Liz Barefoot of this group played taps.
