Roaring Spring Library Gets Ready for Giveaway

The Roaring Spring Library is holding a program to allow students and parents a way to get what they need to go back to school.

The library held its first back-to-school drive which provided clothing to families in the community.

Ellie Smiley, the library's volunteer coordinator, said about 250 were at the library for the drive.

The next back-to-school giveaway with be at the Trinity United Methodist Church on Saturday, Sept. 14, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Smiley said they have a wide assortment of items to give away including backpacks, school supplies, clothes for all ages, jackets, hygiene items, and femine hygiene items.

"We have everything families and their kids need to go back to school."

"It actually started out for back-to-school kids," Smiley said. "But then we started to get new and slightly used clothes for babies and adults." That is when she thought the parents who would be with the children might also be in need.

"People come from everywhere, and we hope to be able to start something for the homeless as well," she said.

Smiley said pretty soon the basement will be turned into the Winter Wear room where people can get everything they need to be warm during the cold months of the years.
