Williamsburg FFA Members Particpate in 2024 State Days

Eight members of the Williamsburg FFA Chapter participated in the Pennsylvania FFA State Activities Week June 11 – 13, 2024 at Penn State, University Park. At the conclusion of the three days, the chapter had success in many different areas.

While at Penn State Tuesday and Wednesday, students are busy competing in Career Development Events (CDEs) which are contests in an agriculturally related area that enables the students to develop critical thinking, problem solving and teamwork skills.

At the third convention session Thursday morning, CDE awards were handed out on stage and the Milk Quality and Products team of Eleanor Brubaker (second Individual – Plaque), Ethan O (third Individual – Plaque), Billie Harnish (fifth Individual), and Sam Parks (seventh Individual) finished first overall and won a trip to compete at the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, Ind.

In the Milk Quality and Products CDE, students use their knowledge about milk production, processing, distribution and marketing to complete a knowledge exam, calculate prices, identify dairy product characteristics and analyze an on-farm production scenario for quality.

Samantha England was recognized as the second-place individual in the Dairy Cattle Evaluation and Management CDE with a plaque. Macy Norris received a plaque as the third-place individual in the Junior Prepared Public Speaking LDE.

In addition, Kassie Mingle competed in the Senior Prepared Public Speaking Contest and was named a silver medalist. Kassie Mingle, Macy Norris and CJ Smith also competed in the Land Use and Management Contest at the PSU Agronomy Farm while at the State Activities Week.
