‘Wall’ Now Permanent

“The Wall that Heals,” a half-scale replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall, permanently returned to Altoona Saturday, Aug. 21.
Tradition and diversity are the themes for this year’s Cultural and Performing Arts Series at Penn State Altoona.
A local church is expecting to give birth soon. The Martinsburg Grace Brethren Church, under the sponsorship of the West Penn District of Grace Brethren churches, is undertaking an effort to establish a “daughter church” in the Saxton area, the Broad Top Area Grace Brethren Church. The church will meet in the former Aldine Theater along Lower Main Street, and the first service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 12.
State Treasurer Barbara Hafer is urging volunteer fire companies to take advantage of a state program that could provide them with additional funds. Fire, rescue and ambulance companies are eligible to receive refunds on any state gas tax paid on liquid fuel used in emergency vehicles throughout the year.
