2x Olympic Medalist With Martinsburg Ties

Martinsburg resident Kay Weyant was extra excited this year for the 2024 Summer Olympic Games. Because for this year's games, her granddaughter competed in them.

From Sarasota, Florida, 22-year-old Emma Weyant has been swimming since she was about five.

Over the years, Weyant has won numerous awards, broken records, and claimed championship titles. She is a recent graduate of the University of Florida where she was a student athlete.

This isn't the first time she has represented the US in the Olympic Games. Weyant also qualified for the 2020 Summer Games, which took place in Tokyo, Japan.

She won silver in the Women's 400m Individual Medley, with a time of 4:32.76, consequently becoming an Olympic medalist.

This year, for the 2024 Summer Games in Paris, France, Weyant represented the country for the second time.

She competed in the 400m on July 29 at 11 in the morning. For the preliminaries, Weyant participated in heat one and ranked number one with a time of 4:36.27.

Finals took place later that evening at 8:30 p.m., where she finished in third place, with a time of 4:34.93.

Winning bronze this year, she has become a 2x Olympic Medalist.

Congratulations to Weyant for her remarkable accomplishments and success at the 2024 Summer Olympic Games in Paris. The Cove is proud.
