Cannery to Begin Corn Pack

Herald of Aug. 4, 1949

Canning of the 1949 corn crop is to begin at the Blue Mountain Cannery at noon, Friday. Trucks were unable to get into wet fields yesterday, delaying the beginning of work 24 hours.

State Highway Department construction crews today worked with assurance that they had “beat the deadline” in the rebuilding of Martinsburg’s streets leading to the Blair County Airport in time for the two-day airshow scheduled for August 13 and 14.

Citizens of Martinsburg, Roaring Spring, and surrounding areas will be given an opportunity to help save lives by donating blood, Thursday, October 20, in Martinsburg.

Pennsylvania’s 21 million bushel wheat crop is the State’s No. 1 agriculture problem today.

Saturday evening around supper time the Martinsburg community had one of the heaviest rains of the season. The rainfall for the day as recorded at the Blue Mountain Canneries was .90 inch.
