Last weekend, a club soccer team based in the Cove traveled east to Wildwood, New Jersey to compete in their Beach Blast Sand Soccer Tournament.
It was an open tournament hosted by the Cape Express Soccer Club, and hundreds of teams from the east coast were invited to come and play on the sandy beach.
The Dragons FC soccer team, from June 29 to June 30, competed in three games in the U19 male division. Each game was five against five.
The tournament also had a "no shoes allowed" policy, so every participant had to play in their bare feet.
It was a good tournament and a memorable experience for the players. Although it rained and flooded the beach, they still played and had a fun time in the drenched sand.
Members from the team are Braden Defibaugh, Alexander Eicher, Duncan Gongloff, Vinny Gongloff, Christian Heuston, Jacob Heuston, Logan Hummel, and Coach Brian Campbell.
Local sponsors included Long's Outpost, Central Hydraulics, HH Brown, and Leighty's Flooring. The jerseys were donated by Chris Hamilton.
