Roaring Spring

Mary Ellen Lindsey, age 99, of Roaring Spring, passed away at home on Tuesday, July 2, 2024.

She was born April 14, 1925, in Wheeling, WV., the daughter of the late Norris Fenton and Mary Ellen (Miller) Overly. She married William Edgar Lindsey on September 30, 1944 and he died November 26, 2009.

She is survived by two children, Bruce Alan Lindsey of Roaring Spring and Suzanne Masic of Duncansville; three grandchildren, Mary Ellen Smith, William J. Smith, and Emma J. Masic; two great-grandsons, Owen and Sawyer Smith; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by three brothers and a sister; Fenton G. Overly, Norris M. Overly, and Robert H. Overly, and Catherine A. Liike.

Mary was a 55 year member of Christ Church, Roaring Spring where she had served as secretary to the consistory for 10 years. She was the oldest member of the congregation.

Mary graduated high school in Detroit, Mich., and graduated practical nursing school in Elyria, Ohio. She had worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse at Nason Hospital and then for Dr. V.W. Heaton.

She enjoyed reading, knitting, traveling, and square-dancing.

She served as past president of the Roaring Spring Business and Professional Women’s Club and was a member of the Roaring Spring Senior Women’s Club.

A public memorial service will be held at Christ Church at a later date by Rev. Joel Kletzing. Arrangements are by the Todd T. Thompson Funeral Home Inc., Roaring Spring. (www.thompsonfh.com)
