Claysburg Area Hall of Fame Inducts New Inductees

The Claysburg Area Hall of Fame inducted its latest class. The 2024 inductees included Dahl Bowser, Lynn and Janice Crist, Brent Miller, Dolan Mosser with Bill and Suie Burket – Bill's Place receiving the Pioneer Award.

Each inductee received an individual award, citations from the Pennsylvania House of Representatives and the Pennsylvania Senate and will have his/her name engraved on The Hall of Fame Monument located in the Claysburg Community Park.

Dahl Bowser

Dahl Bowser was introduced by his daughter Stephanie Hastings.

"I'm just so proud of my dad – He is one of my favorite people in the entire world and I love him more than anything," she said.

"I'm very humbled on this occasion. I had no idea that any of this stuff was going on, " Dahl said.

Dahl, who upon retiring from the army and White House Communications and eventually transitioned to the United States Secret Service says that the most important thing is his wife.

"She held everything together while I was gone," he said. "She raised the kids – She has stuck with me for almost 55 years – I just want to tell everybody how much she means to me and what a great person she is."

Lynn and Janice Crist

Lynn and Janice Crist were introduced by Drew Mosser. He spoke of Lynn and Janice by saying that a beautiful part about life in a small town is that you don't have to really worry about who your neighbor is and you don't have to worry about who they are and what they have done.

Janice said that they were quite surprised to receive the phone call regarding their induction into the Hall of Fame.

"I was speechless and as many of you know that doesn't happen very often," she said.

Lynn, who served as a Greenfield Township Supervisor and helped to start up the Greenfield Township Water Authority and Janice, who retired in 2011 from the position of Greenfield Township Tax Collector were overwhelmed. Janice says that they were just two ordinary people, who have been greatly blessed.

"I learned that it was more rewarding to serve others than myself," she said.

Brent Miller

Brent Miller was introduced by Richard Allison.

Miller was raised in Polecat Hollow. He is a 1960 graduate of Greenfield-Kimmel High School and received a degree in Aerospace Engineering from Penn State.

After graduation, he joined NASA where he conducted and then managed aerospace propulsion research for over thirty years at the agency's Glenn Research Center in Ohio.

As a member of the government's Senior Executive Service (SES), Miller was frequently called upon to make presentations to members of Congress, Congressional Advisory committees, and to senior DOD officials regarding ongoing and planned NASA research.

His pioneering work was individually recognized by the President of the United States when he received the Presidential Rank Award for his contribution to our nation's aerospace capabilities.

Upon Miller's retirement from NASA, he continued to do consulting work.

In May of 2023, he was asked by the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, where he holds the position of Associate Fellow, to join a small group of specialists investigating the UAP phenomena, more popularly known as "Flying Saucers".

Dolan Mosser

Both introducing and accepting for Dolan Mosser was Kasey Mosser.

"I had this superhero in my family who I really didn't know," Kasey said of his uncle.

Dolan was an inspiration to those who watched him give 110% of himself to anything he did.

His short stature and never quit attitude made him an underdog hero with crowds attending events just to watch David take on Goliath.

After graduation, Dolan attended Penn Tech College until he was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia.

While most people would have had their spirits crushed by this diagnosis, Dolan was again determined to take Goliath down. His treatments took him to Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, where he started a three year battle fighting the cancer.

Dolan, who volunteered for experimental procedures for his condition, would say that even if they were not successful, the work would lead to a cure for the next person.

His brother Drew says that some of the treatments that they gave him have now become mainstream.

Bill and Suie Burket - Bill's Place

Bill and Suie Burket were introduced by and accepted by granddaughter Sandy Burket Yagiela.

"They were two people who had the biggest hearts of anyone who I've ever known," Sandy said about her grandparents.

Bill and Suie's contributions to Claysburg were not measured by public recognition or any awards that they received.

They were just "good people" and they in turn were good to many people in Claysburg.
