Catharine Sign PennDOT Agreement

Catharine Township Supervisors received and discussed their annual PennDOT Winter Service Agreement during last Thursday evening’s meeting.

Chairman Heather Flaig made a motion to sign the winter maintenance agreement for Fox Run Road for five years. According to Flaig, the annual amount the township will get will start at $13,798, a 2% increase from the previous year. Vice Chairman Ken Brenneman seconded motion, motion passed.

The township contacted several other municipalities and townships regarding a burning ordinance; Flaig said most do not have one and what she did find was a small paragraph located in the junk ordinance. No further action was taken at the time.

Brenneman made a motion to switch the internet provider for the township from Brightspeed to Xfinity, citing speed. Ralph Rispoli seconded motion, motion passed.

Chairman Flaig also gave an update on Hemlock, which the township is still awaiting DEP to issue a permit. Flaig said the Farm Show is awaiting DEP to conduct the final inspection for fly ash. Flaig said the Dirt and Gravel grant for the Lower Trail was rejected.

Several residents voiced concerns privately to supervisors regarding Oak Alley’s runoff and drainage issues. PennDOT was asked, according to Flaig, to put in a calvert and install pipes, which they rejected. The township is now looking into costs and permitting requirements from PennDOT to try to work on solutions themselves.

Township supervisors are asking residents if they know who is throwing garbage in the township dumpster, and if they know anything to please contact the secretary.

There was an executive session held following the meeting regarding legal matters for the Township.
