Joe W. Reffner

Joe W. Reffner, 96, of Centerville, formerly of New Enterprise, passed away June 27, 2024, at UPMC Altoona Hospital. He was born Sept. 28, 1927, in Flitch; son of the late Wilson and Sallie (Bowser) Reffner. On July 24, 1952, at the Koontz Church of the Brethren, he was united in marriage to LaDonna J. (Baker) Reffner.

He is survived by two sons, Wade Reffner (Gloria) of Centerville and Robert Reffner (Sandy) of New Enterprise; grandchildren: Joe, Deanna, Ken, Becky, and James; great-grandchildren: Joshua, Jadyn, Justus, Josiah, Jonathan, Aviva, Owen, Addison, and McKenna; and step-great-grandchildren, Braydon and Madisson.

Joe was preceded in death by his wife LaDonna on March 10, 2013, and siblings: Elda Mock and Albert and James Reffner.

Joe proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. He served for four years, three of which were spent as a propeller instructor.

Joe was a mechanic by trade, first working for Don Rice Ford for 12 years and later working for and retiring from New Enterprise Stone & Lime Co. after 24 years.

He was a member of the Koontz Church of the Brethren and previously served as a Sunday school teacher and deacon. After moving, he began attending Bedford Valley Bible Church.

Joe enjoyed airplanes, machinery and farm equipment, and gardening. He was involved with the Southern Cove Power Reunion. Joe NEVER met a stranger.

A funeral was held Tuesday, July 2, 2024, at the Stone Funeral Home in Woodbury. Pastor John Hollis officiated. Interment was made in Koontz Cemetery.
