Driving Regs. Signed to Law

Legislation aimed at producing safer young drivers in Pennsylvania was signed into law by Gov. Tom Ridge last week. As of Aug. 24 the curfew for those with junior licenses will be changed from midnight to 11 p.m. Also, drivers under 18 will not be permitted to carry more passengers than the number of seatbelts in their vehicle.

The dog days of summer officially arrived. Through Tuesday, the month of July has seen the thermometer reach 90 degrees or above four straight days – July 3-6 – including three straight 92 degree days.

Central volleyball player Ryan Sell was chosen to participate in the 1999 USA Volleyball junior national championships this week in New Orleans, La.

New Enterprise Stone & Lime Co. recently was awarded contracts for two major road projects.

The Healthsouth Rehabilitation Hospital of Altoona recently announced the opening of its sixth outpatient rehabilitation center, located at Red Fox Drive in Duncansville.
