Before I describe my feelings about the actions of Kevin Smith at the June 17 th Spring Cove School Board meeting, let me tell you about my experience as an educator. For 35 years before moving to this area, I was an educator in several capacities. One was to help mentor young people entering the field of education. At the first Spring Cove school board meeting that I attended something happened that I have never ever seen before, a director voted against the appointment of a teacher without explanation nor reason. That is unheard of in any place. Kevin Smith did this appalling act. Unquestionably we need to do a better job in selecting people to the school board. We do not need a person with a lack of judgment and a mean streak in a job that is supposed to support educators not biasedly rejecting them.
