Mearkle to Speak at Blair County Genealogical Society

The Blair County Genealogical Society will meet at 7:00 pm Thursday, June 20, at the Roller Hojeth Memorial Library, 431 Scotch Valley Rd. Hollidaysburg.

The meeting will feature local author Kevin Mearkle speaking about his book “The Underground Railroad in Bedford County”.

The book details activities of the Underground Railroad and some of the people who helped enslaved people to freedom in the north. The book also contains over 100 photographs and images of people, landmarks, slave registration documents, and reward advertisements for runaway enslaved people in nearby newspapers.

Mearkle has authored two other books, “Civil War Soldiers of Bedford County” in 2021 and “Battlefield Tour Guide of Bedford County Soldiers at Gettysburg and Antietam” in 2022.
