Alfred J. "Jeff" Hoover

Curryville

Alfred J. “Jeff” Hoover, 73, of Curryville, went to his eternal home Thursday morning, May 30, 2024, after his latest bout with cancer.

He was born May 16, 1951, in Roaring Spring, son of the late Alfred E. and Betty Jean (Williams) Hoover. On Aug. 3, 1974, he married Joy A. Musser in Williamsburg.

He is survived by his beloved wife and caregiver, Joy of 49 years; a son Andy Hoover (Kris) of Martinsburg; a daughter Kristy Myers (Philip) of Shirleysburg; five granddaughters: Macy Myers, Lilly Hoover, Kenzy Myers, Maddy Hoover, and Cally Myers; a sister Linda Steele (Mark) of Roaring Spring; and a brother Scott Hoover (Janet).

Jeff was a 1969 graduate of Central High School, Martinsburg, where he played multiple sports. He attended Williamsport Community College, graduating in 1971 with a certificate of applied science in electrical construction.

He worked at NESL for 39 years before he retired on disability as the maintenance superintendent in the electric shop.

Jeff battled multiple illnesses over his life, but remained faithful and hopeful his entire life. He was a 35 year cancer survivor, battling multiple types, four different times.

Jeff grew up in the First Church of the Brethren in Roaring Spring, and was currently a member of Martinsburg Brethren in Christ Church.

His pastimes included hunting, fishing, reloading and woodworking. He loved making things out of wood, gave them as gifts, and donated or sold many items as fundraisers for various causes, including Relay for Life. Jeff was the 2006 ambassador for the Cove Relay for Life. He also enjoyed watching Penn State football, and the Pittsburgh Steelers, even though he referred to them as a bunch of bums.

Family was most important to him, and he rarely missed an activity his children or grandchildren were involved in.

A funeral service was held Monday, June 3, 2024, at the Martinsburg Brethren in Christ Church. Pastor Michael Abell officiated. Interment was held at Fairview Cemetery, Martinsburg.

Contributions in memory of Jeff can be given to Cove Cause for Cancer, 343 Ponderosa Ln, Roaring Spring, PA 16673 or the Martinsburg BIC, 334 Sonrise Dr., Martinsburg, PA 16662.
