North Woodbury Twp. Buys Tractor, Tables Salt Shed Project

After considering three bids for a new tractor and considerable discussion about cost, a decision was made to purchase a John Deere 5-1 series tractor from West Central Supply at a cost of $98,105 at the May North Woodbury Township regular meeting.

West Central Supply, however, gave the township $45,000 for the old tractor for a net cost of $53,105. West Central Supply agreed to provide a loaner in case of a break down and also offered an extended warranty on the tractor.

The John Deere had $10,000 to $11,000 of options on it and weighed 2,100 pounds more than a Kubota submitted for the township’s request for tractor bids. Given all these factors, Supervisor Mark Ayers recommended that the township purchase the John Deere tractor.

After long discussion last month about a new salt shed, the board decided to reject all submitted bids due to a current lack of funding for it. The board of supervisors decided to choose a different path due to the high cost and are looking at a grant to cover the cost of the salt shed.

Two bids for a generator for the township were considered and the biggest difference on the final choice came down to the warranty offered for the 26,000-watt Generac generator which the township decided to purchase at a cost of $9,646. A minimum 320-gallon fuel tank was recommended for the generator.

Ninety-day development extensions were approved by the township for work on the following: the T.L. Long duplex, T.L. Long Agway Road, and for the Clover Creek Church.

During the road report, the supervisors decided to put up a sign restricting tractor-trailers on Henrietta Mountain Road.

During Police Chief Lance Morris’s report, his recommendation to pay off the $10,094 owed on the Records Management System (CNET) with available Covid money was approved along with motion to purchase digital speed limit signs with rescue money. The township will get two removable signs at a discounted price of $6,200.

The supervisors also agreed to have a speed limit study done on the 3700 block of Fredericksburg Road. The current speed limit is 25 m.p.h., but neighborhood residents want a 15 m.p.h. speed limit.

The bridge on Krepps Road will not be re-opened between the 100 and 200 blocks. Blair County will be removing the bridge and putting guard rails in. To stay open, the bridge would have to be privately maintained.

The township also agreed to renew employee health insurance with the current provider. The township also received a dividend check from Teeter Insurance in the amount of $1,587.

The superviosors also will get bids for the spraying of weeds. The audit review letter from Ritchey Ritchey and Koontz was signed.

The June date for the regular township supervisors meeting has been moved to Thursday, June 13, at 10 a.m.
