Martinsburg Borough Accepts Bid for Paving Project

The Martinsburg Borough Council members accepted a bid for $60,930.45 from Grannas Bros. for the 2024 Paving Project.

Martinsburg Borough Police Chief Kerry Hoover said a grant the county applied for about two years ago was approved and his department would be receiving new radios and laptops at no cost to the borough.

He said, as part of the grant, the Martinsburg Police Department will be getting five portable radios, three mobile radios, and three new laptops for the patrol vehicles.

“All of the radios are in, we are just waiting for the laptops,” Hoovers said. “We just went through a lot of instruction about programming the new radios.”

Borough Manager Rich Brantner Jr. said he was contacted by Democratic Sen. Bob Casey and U.S. Rep. John Joyce, R-Blair in March to inform him that the authority was awarded a $1 million grant for a new elevated tank at the Blair County Airport.

He said the water authority was also awarded a water transmission line to run from the Hershberger Well out to the water plant.

Brantner Jr. said the community clean up day was successful on April 27, where about 175 residents participated.

“We were able to collect 10 skids of electronics and four roll-off dumpsters of junk and metal,” he said.

The cost for the dumpsters and to haul everything was about $2,000, but they will probably be able to get some of the money back from the metal that was collected, Brantner, Jr. said.

“It is something well worth doing, it keeps everything looking nice and keeps the properties cleaned up,” he said.

Brantner, Jr. said they are looking into getting a fourth radar speed sign and heard that North Woodbury Township was interested in getting two.

He got a quote for three of them that would be about $3,100, which would save them about $600.

Brandon Weber was approved by the Martinsburg Borough Council to represent the Cove on the Hollidaysburg American Legion Ambulance board.

Rob Craig, supervisor for the EMS company said the addition was approved by their board, and was told he also had to bring it before the Martinsburg borough council members as well.

Brantner, Jr. said in the past, the council would bring a representative from the Cove to sit on the ambulance service’s board.

The term would be for two years.

Craig said the representative will attend meetings and discuss finances and ideas for events and fundraisers.

“I think Brandon being from Martinsburg and having good knowledge of this area can help us come up with good fundraiser ideas,” he said.

Craig also had an ambulance run report for the board to look at from January 1 until May 1.

He said Martinsburg had 125 calls, North Woodbury had 93, Huston Township had 12, Roaring Spring had 56, South Woodbury had 16, and Williamsburg had 142.

Craig said about 50% of their calls are to Homewood and The Village at Morrisons Cove.
