Tornado Cuts Through Cove

Damage was estimated at $50,000 to barns and property in a 12-mile swath cut through Morrisons Cove by a tornado Sunday evening, May 22. The dark funnel cloud entered the valley between Lafayetteville and Brumbaugh and exited over Tussey Mountain between Frederickburg and Henrietta.

William H. Ketner of Roaring Spring was attending the conference of the “Big Four” foreign ministers in Paris. He was special assistant to the United States Secretary of State Dean Acheson. Foreign ministers from Great Britain, France, Russia, and the United States were attending. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Blair Ketner.

Morrisons Cove area Lutheran churches “over subscribed” their quotas in the area-wide campaign to raise $310,000 for the Allegheny Lutheran Home to be built at Hollidaysburg. St. Matthews Lutheran Church of of Martinsburg raised $6,227, $2,000 more than its pledge.
