Robert C. Jubelier defeated Roy Ogburn in the hotly-contested race for the Republican nomination for state senator. Ogburn carried Bedford and Huntingdon counties, but Jubelier’s big margin in Blair earned him the win. Has was to face Democrat Altoona assemblyman Denny J. Bixler in the November election.

A fund drive to raise money for a new fire hall for the Roaring Spring Volunteer Fire Company cleared its goal of $150,000.
