Sophomores from Cove High Schools Graduate from Program

Students from Cove high schools were among the 24 graduates to complete the Leadership Blair County Youth Program of the Blair County Chamber of Commerce.

Students who participated from Cove schools include Evan Brumbaugh, Norah Bechtel, Katherine Dunn, and Willow Miller of Central High School, and Mariah Good and Macy Norris of Williamsburg High School.

Chamber CEO, Joe Hurd said this year’s sophomore class was different.

“This year’s class I think must have been fairly special, not only the class itself but the sophomore classes at all the Blair County schools,” he said.

About two weeks ago, the Chamber held its rotary career fair at the Blair County Convention Center and there were 1,200 sophomores there, Hurd said.

“The comment we received from the employers was that these kids seem very interested, very polite, and well behaved,” he said.

A ceremony was held at the Port Sky Cafe at the Penn State Altoona campus to pay tribute to the LBC 2024 sophomore class and their hard work.

During the program students were able to cultivate leadership skills, learn about career opportunities in the county, explore different industries and businesses, and participate in volunteer activities.
