Schools Plan Graduations

Herald of May 19, 1949

Nine area high schools announced plans for graduation ceremonies: Robert Smith Vocational High School, Yellow Creek; Roaring Spring High School, Martinsburg High School, Replogle High School, New Enterprise, Morrisons Cove High School, Wiliamsburg High School, Taylor Township Consolidated School, Woodbury High School and Greenfield Township High School.

The Pennsylvania Railroad Shops at Altoona were to close at 7 a.m. Friday, May and remain closed until 7 a.m. June 1. All departments with about 11,000 employees were to be affected. A continued decrease in demand for transportation and a subsequent decline in business were listed as the reason for the two-week shutdown.

Richard Bolger of Martinsburg was featured in a two-piano recital at the Eagle Hall Conservatory of Music on the Lebanon Valley College campus.
