Claysburg Park Gets Grant

The Claysburg Area Community Park committee was awarded a $20,000 state grant as part of $12.6 million in grants awarded by Gov. Tom Ridge for 230 local park, open space, recreation and conservation projects in 58 counties.

A federal grant of $975,000 obtained with help of U.S. Rep. Bud Shuster would provide the bulk of the funding for the Lower Trail in Williamsburg to be extended to the Canoe Creek State Park.

Frank Thomas and Bob Roberston took part in a baseball clinic at Roaring Spring Little Baseball field. The event was part of a fundraising effort for the league.

Louise Speck, former librarian at the Williamsburg Public Library, was presented a citation from the Pennsylvania House of Representatives. State Rep. Jerry Stern made the presentation to Speck of Martinsburg for her contributions to the community during her long tenure as librarian in Williamsburg.
