Putting cows on the front page since 1885.
Southern Cove Power Reunion held Plow Days on Saturday April 20.
Despite the weather being a little cold folks came out for the event.
The event got underway early, before 8 a.m.
Numerous tractors were seen plowing the fields and spectators watched the process.
Craft vendors were permitted to set up free of charge and they were busy getting their tables and goods ready for display.
Items such as natural products, homemade candy apples, homemade place mats and tumblers were just a few.
The newly remodeled kitchen belonging to SCPR opened at 9 a.m. and the breakfast croissant sandwiches were a big hit.
Lunch items started at 11 a.m. and the kitchen had sales continuously until 9:30 p.m.
The most popular items were chicken tender baskets, soft pretzels with cheese, steak sandwiches, sausage sandwiches and kraut dogs.
At lunchtime, in the grounds near the track a large bolt of black smoke was seen .
A pickup truck owned by Avery Hinson had caught on fire.
With quick thinking, the truck got pushed out to an open area away from the other vehicles.
It continued to burn and burst into flames engulfing the entire truck.
A disaster had been avoided because of this quick response.
Had the grass been dry or this would have happened a little later when everyone was coming with their tractors it could have been a catastrophic incident.
The truck was heating up, but nobody expected it to catch on fire and start having mini explosions. Nobody was injured in the incident, but the truck is a total loss. Southern Cove Fire Company was called and responded to the scene by putting out the fire.
The tractor pull brought a lot of spectators and pullers despite the increase in the pulling fee. The event was still going on past 10 p.m.
Despite the temperature dropping folks stayed and the lines for food from the kitchen were long. The club is very grateful for all who supported this event and purchased food.
On April 27, Mark Wisecarver rented the grounds for sale.
People can bring items they want to get rid of from lawn mowers to pipes to the SCPR starting on Wednesday, April 24.
The Kitchen will be open on Saturday at 8 a.m. for coffee and breakfast sandwiches.
Come out and support the club, sell those items lying around, and have a great time socializing with others.
The next tractor pull is scheduled for May 18.
Weigh in is 3 p.m. and the pull will start at 4 p.m.
Craft Vendors can set up free of charge.
The grounds and pavilion maybe still be rented for a few dates this year, called Judith Ott at 814-932-6166 for available dates.
