Martinsburg Principal Resigns

The resignation of Martinsburg Elementary School Principal Melissa Cerully was accepted at the March Regular School Board of Directors meeting.

Cerully had served in the position since July 2021. Prior to assuming her position at Martinsburg Elementary School, she had served as assistant principal at Central High School since 2018 under Principal Stephanie Thompson.

She assumed her position at Martinsburg Elementary following the resignation of long time administrator Kendra Prichett. Cerully attained her Principal Certification in 2018 from Point Park University.

In other personnel changes, Gerald Albright was approved as varsity head football coach, to replace long time coach Dave Baker at a salary of $7,617, Joseph Bilka was named as varsity head girls cross country coach at a stipend of $2,520, and Aaron Bowers was approved as varsity head girls volleyball coach with a salary of $3,238.

Sherri Kenni will be brought on to fill the open position of health room nurse for 7 hours per day and 183 days per year with a starting rate set at $20 per hour.

District administration was given permission to enter into an agreement with Gartland Lawn Care to provide lawn care services for the 2023/24 school year at a cost of $12,250.

The district was authorized to enter into a five year agreement with Oakes Lawn Mowing Services to provide mowing and trimming services beginning April 1, 2024 and ending March 31, 2029 at a base cost of $1,575 and any additional individual mowing/trimming charges for the main campuses and athletic fields as listed in their proposal.

The motion to resurface the tennis courts with Keystone Sports Construction for $43,021 was unanimously approved.

The school board was presented with an autographed framed flyer from the cast of “Bye Bye Birdie”. The cast thanked the board and Central High School Principal Stephanie Thompson for their complete and constant support of the show. Cast members were honored and introduced by their character.

The next Committee of the Whole meeting is scheduled for Monday, April 8 and the next Regular Meeting is Monday, April 15 . Both will be held at the Administration Office Board Room at 7:00p.m.
