Feeding our Community

The Martinsburg Food Pantry provides food for our community with the help of local churches, businesses and individuals, along with many volunteers, working together to help their neighbors through difficult times. The Food Pantry has been blessed with many food and monetary gifts these past several months after the holidays. Our shelves are looking amazingly well stocked of food. The local need has continued to increase, and all who have given to the Food Pantry, has enabled the Pantry to serve everyone in need. The community’s kindness and generosity are very much appreciated, and the volunteers at the Food Pantry express their gratitude and thanks!

The Martinsburg Food Pantry opened on January 7, 2010 in the old Borough Building, located at 133 E. Allegheny Street, and serves people in the 16662 Zip Code. The building is now owned by Attorney Shawn Sullivan, who lets the Pantry use the smaller building connected to it, and provides the needs, which is much appreciated. Many individual donors provide Ritchey’s milk, eggs, meat, bananas, apples, garden produce, and Giant Eagle donates day old baked goods. Churches provide volunteers, Thanksgiving meals, Easter and Birthday bags. The Pantry receives monetary donations as well as non-perishable food items. The money is used for vouchers for food items at Rhodes Market in Martinsburg.

The Food Pantry is open for distribution of food and vouchers on the first and third Thursdays of each month from 9:00 until 11:00 a.m. and other times by appointment only. Applicants will need to show I.D., proof of residence, and know their monthly income to be determined by the state guidelines to receive food. The amount of food received is based on the number of people in the household. Households are allowed to received food items and vouchers 12 times a year.
