What’s New for Kids?

This week we would like to tell you about some of the wonderful things that have been added to our easy, juvenile and young adult sections.

In our easy reader section, we have added some new books starring some old favorites. We have new Angelina and Grumpy Monkey books. We have also added the newest book in the “Crayon” series. With St. Patrick’s Day approaching, everyone would think Green is the star of the show, but he has gone on vacation! How will the crayons celebrate the holiday without him? Also a fun new addition to the children’s section is two books from the “Kid Scientists” series. These books put children in the shoes of real STEM professionals. We now have Astronauts on the Space Station and Archaeologist on a Dig in our collection.

There are many new, exciting reads in our juvenile fiction collection! We have expanded our “Bad Kitty,” “Mercy Watson,” “Captain Underpants” and “Geronimo Stilton” series. We have also added our first “I Survived” graphic novel. New to the Rick Riordan family of books is Camp Half-Blood Confidential: Your Real Guide to the Demigod Training Camp, which published in conjunction with the Disney+ release of the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series. This book is your secret handbook to surviving Camp Half-Blood, with advice from Percy, Annabeth and other residents of the camp.

The two notable additions to our young adult collection belong to fantasy storylines. Murtagh by Christopher Paolini takes us back to the magical world of Eragon. This book takes place a year after the events of Inheritance. Dragon Rider Murtagh is no longer safe in this land, and he and his dragon must start an epic journey to defeat the new big bad. House of Flame and Shadow by Sarah Maas released January 30. It is the highly anticipated third novel in her “Crescent City” series. Maas is also the author of the critically acclaimed “A Court of Thorn and Roses” series.

We have also added several new titles to our nonfiction sections. Our easy nonfiction section received a six-book set of world festivals, including books on Carnival, the Dragon Boat Festival and the Iditarod. These informational texts include a glossary of words younger readers may not be familiar with and a website where families can access videos, games and more related to the content. The juvenile nonfiction collection has a new series on Chinese mythology, as well as a collection of outdoor encyclopedias, covering topics such as camping and hiking, fishing, hunting and wildlife watching.

Bring your kids to the library and find a book that makes them fall in love with reading!
