In a three-match week, the Lady Dragon basketball team faced the Philipsburg-Osceola Lady Mountaineers, the Bellwood-Antis Lady Blue Devils and the Johnstown Lady Trojans.
The Lady Dragons found victories against the Mountaineers and the Trojans with respective scores of 59-23 and 46-32. The midweek game, however, left the Lady Dragons with a 42-35 loss.
After outscoring the Mountaineers 25-2 in the first quarter, the Dragons’ dominance continued throughout the rest of the game. The Dragons led 42-8 going into half and continued their reign for the rest of the match. Megan Diehl led with 17 points, while Morgan Knepp and Bralyn Ellis each added seven.
Despite falling into an early double-digit deficit, the Dragons clawed their way back into the game against the Blue Devils. The Dragons trailed by 12 after the first quarter but were able to cut that lead down to eight with a 27-19 halftime score. The Dragons cut that lead by two more points after the third, but barely fell short in the final quarter, ending the match with a loss. Diehl led with nine points while Adyson Poet added seven in the losing effort.
Against the Trojans, the early game seemed likely to be a much closer contest than what it turned out to be. Ahead by just three after the first quarter, the Dragons somewhat struggled to get their offense going early on. The three-point lead turned to two with the 18-16 halftime score. The third quarter was when the Dragons finally found their groove, scoring 18 points as to their opponents’ eight and continuing their lead throughout the fourth quarter to win the game. Ellis led with 13 points while Mackenzie Rhykerd chipped in 11 as well.
The Dragons’ record is now 8-8 as they prepare to face the Bellwood-Antis Lady Blue Devils again and the Bald Eagle Lady Eagles in the upcoming week.
