The Williamsburg Municipal Authority held its reorganizational meeting last Thursday, Jan. 8, before the regular meeting.
Former Chairman Ed Patterson announced that he no longer wanted to be chairman, and authority Member Dave Myers nominated Member Daryl Cole to fill the vacated position. With Member Harry Mullins seconding, the motion passed.
Myers also nominated Mullins to continue to be vice chairman with Member Chet Bingham seconding, and the motion passed.
Myers then nominated Bingham as the new secretary of the Williamsburg Municipal Authority with Mullins seconding. Myers was retained as the authority’s treasurer.
Stiffler McGraw engineer John Clabaugh said there had been no communication with Cenveo following the last meeting, and that he would give any updates as needed.
Clabaugh said that Stiffler-McGraw had been hearing some complaints from clients about the increase in on-going lab costs for testing water quality. Clabaugh said the engineering science team put quotes together from three testing firms and the one that the authority currently uses is the highest, PACE, coming in at a little over $33,000 annually for the authority.
Two other firms came in significantly below, with CWN coming in at $22,291.
“That is quite a change in cost,” Vice Chairman Mullins said. Member Bingham made a motion to move testing services to CWN with Member Myers seconding, and the motion passed.
The authority applied for grants from the state last year, and Clabaugh announced at the meeting that a grant for two new well pumps and two valve accessories had been awarded.
“It’s great news for you guys,” Clabaugh said. “Receipt of this grant will allow the authority to increase system reliability while minimizing any impact to rate payers.”
Clabaugh said that there may be a change in cost on well pumps since the application was submitted, and that he would include those prices for the next month.
Authority members expressed gratitude to state Sen. Judy Ward and state Rep. Jim Gregory for their help in securing the one grant application.
Treasurer Myers presented the budget and said, “income doesn’t change a whole lot – the income stream for the authority is pretty standard.”
Members Daryl Cole and Troy Everhart were absent from the meeting. Following the open meeting, a closed-door executive session was held.
